The Autodigestion Hypothesis

Since the discovery of superoxyde dismutase (J. M. McCord and I. Fridovich, 1969) the Oxygen Free Radical Hypothesis has received close attention as potential mechanisms for cell and tissue injury in aging and in many pathologies.

In 2005 we postulated that there exists a second tissue injury mechanism that we coined the Auto-Digestion Hypothesis.
