Overview >> Undergraduate Program The graduate and undergraduate Bioengineering Programs at UCSD are designed to emphasize the application of the principles and methods of engineering sciences to study biomedical problems. The undergraduate program has three components. The Bioengineering undergraduate program, which is accredited by the American Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET), is for students who plan to continue in bioengineering; the degree offered is the BS in Bioengineering. The other is a program for the training of engineering students that fulfill the premedical requirements, and the degree offered is a B.S. in Premedical Bioengineering. In addition, the department offers a B.S. degree in Biotechnology. This is a four-year engineering curriculum that prepares students for careers in the emerging biotechnology industry or for further education in graduate school. This curriculum has a strong engineering foundation with emphasis on biochemical process applications. ABET accreditation will be sought for this major. For information on these undergraduate programs, one should consult the UCSD General Catalog (http://www.ucsd.edu/) or the Department of Bioengineering Undergraduate Handbook. |
